Have you ever scrolled through home listings and come upon a home that you just love? Why did you love it? What features caught your eye? Now ask a partner or friend what their dream home looks like. There might be similarities in your answers, but if there's one thing I know for sure, it’s that everyone has a different picture in their mind of their dream home.
One group of home buyers who knows exactly what they're looking for are millennials (people born between 1981 and 1996). These folks represent the largest share of home buyers on the market right now and while they may have waited a little longer than previous generations to purchase their first home, they’re taking the market by storm precisely because they know what they want. Generally speaking, millennials gravitate toward homes that are smarter, high-tech, and more environmentally conscious. Overall, they fall in love with homes that offer them the lifestyle and experience they value most.
But millennials aren’t the only ones having an impact on the market right now. I’m also seeing a growing number of buyers who are mid-career and considering downsizing in the near future. And I’m working with many buyers with families who are less concerned about being close to their work and more focused on finding a home the whole family can love that offers flexible spaces for living, working, learning, and entertaining.
